Of the approximately 30 hotels that Charlottesville, VA lodging has to offer, some are quaint bed and breakfast hotels that truly reflect the charm and ambiance of the past. There are modern hotels as well, but the bed and breakfast facilities have modern amenities to offer guests as well. Some of the older buildings that house the bed and breakfast hotels date back to the early 1800’s.
One of these is The Clifton Inn. Built in 1799, the hotel has 1800’s charm with all of the modern conveniences to make guests comfortable. The décor is authentically decorated to reflect earlier times in each of the 18 rooms in the former pre-Civil War mansion. Over 1,000 acres of rolling land surround this Charlottesville, VA lodging spot.
Another beautiful hotel that sits at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains as well as The Clifton Inn is the Inn at the Crossroads. This hotel was built in the early 1800’s and has a beautiful colonial atmosphere. Several U.S. Presidents have stayed at The Clifton Inn over the years. Each room has antique furnishings and a private bath that will give guests a real feel for living in Charlottesville in past years. Breakfast is served each morning in the large kitchen at the community table.
200 South Street Inn is a historical home located in the historical area of downtown Charlottesville close to the Pedestrian Mall with its restaurants and shops. Rooms have antique furniture such as a 4-poster bed and beautiful decors. Right outside the door of 200 South Street Inn are more historical homes to see, and wineries and other attractions are also nearby. The luxury Keswick Hall at Monticello is another beautiful high-end hotel that sits at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, close to the University of Virginia. This gorgeous old country estate with modern amenities, such as three swimming pools, is perfect for a golfing get away. Each room is decorated differently in the décor of years ago, complete with fireplaces in some rooms. The indoor pool, with piped underwater music, is known to be a great place to relax, and there is a fitness center and spa as well. Keswick Hall offers hot air ballooning – a one and one-half hour tour by air over the rolling hills of the countryside.
The English Inn is a very clean facility with a friendly staff and the charm of an English country inn. High tea is served each afternoon, and suites have both a bedroom and sitting room decorated in Queen Anne style. There is also a bar in each room, and guests who plan to stay for a while can rent an extended stay luxury suite at very reasonable prices.
For tourists who prefer more modern hotels, the upscale Omni Charlottesville, located on Pedestrian Mall, has both an indoor and outdoor pool. Many amenities are offered at this hotel including wireless Internet access, and rooms are furnished in mahogany pieces. The Hampton Inn & Suites Charlottesville – At the University is another great modern facility that has many extra amenities and lots of charm. Some suites come complete with fireplaces. There is also the option of a private driver to take you wherever you want to go, or a trolley service is offered as well.
The Hilton Garden Inn Charlottesville is located in Peter Jefferson Place Business Park on land that once belonged to the father of Thomas Jefferson. This beautiful hotel is also near Monticello and the Historic Pedestrian Mall. Rooms are clean and well-decorated, and beds have adjustable firmness to make them just right for every visitor. If you prefer to be near the airport, the Doubletree Charlottesville is your choice. It is also close to the beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and overlooks the Rivanna River.
